ZyGEM ALLIANCES
Strategic Partnerships
The ZyGEM proprietary collection of extremophile organisms has produced an exclusive collection of novel enzymes described in over 200 publications. ZyGEM is a privately funded company formed to commercially develop this culture collection and other technologies for nucleic acid sample preparation and analysis, as well as for other life sciences and industrial applications. The company is also developing other innovative technologies with potential applications in science, medicine and industry. We are developing and commercializing these technologies through strategic alliances, technical collaborations and commercial relationships with a variety of partners.
The first products developed by ZyGEM, which are based on the novel, patented EA1 proteinase derived from the culture collection, are designed to simplify the DNA extraction process for genotyping and other nucleic acid testing applications. EA1 proteinase-based prepGEM™ and forensicGEM™ kits enable single tube extraction of DNA, thereby simplifying the laboratory workflow, minimizing opportunities for sample contamination and facilitating automated sample processing. Benefits to users include faster processing times and reduced costs.

The Zee Tags Tissue Sampler coupled with prepGEM™ products,
provides a truly unique sampling system. You can now collect
good quality samples for genetic analysis faster and cheaper
than ever before:

Zee Tags & ZyGEM provide a complete turn-key system from the farm gate to the analyzing laboratory for DNA analysis.
The Zee Tags Tissue Sampler applicator is also used to administer Zee Tags traditional tags (see www.zeetags.com), no need to double up on applicators. The applicator prevents torn ears by its unique reflex action where the ear is released as soon as the sample is taken.
The Zee Tags Tissue Sampler takes a very small tissue sample (1-2mm2) from the ear surface. Sample size is regulated, and doesn't take a plug from the entire thickness of the ear. Humane sampling - rapid healing. Neither punch nor pouch collecting the sample comes into contact with the applicator - no cross contamination.
DNA is extracted directly in the sample pouch in 4 simple and rapid steps, removing the need for open tube manipulations, or sample transfer. Recovered DNA is ready for us or storage.
Due to their small size, samples dry out quickly and do not require any special storage conditions for transporting to your lab. Alternatively the process can be speeded up by placing silica gel pillows with the samples while collecting. No detrimental effects were seen in DNA tests on samples after ambient temperature storage after 10 days from sample collection. For long term storage sample pouches can be stored with silica gel to keep them dry, or in the freezer. They can then be tested at any time.
